Mom's a major worrier,
she's a little too afraid.
She's constantly ready
with a million Band-aids.
I don't take risks -
well, not too many.
I didn't gulp a quarter,
it was only a penny.
When I broke my ankle,
it wasn't my fault.
I just used a curtain rod
to practice pole vault.
Mom's over-protectiveness
is beyond reason.
She's making me contemplate
committing family treason.
Now when I leave home,
I look like a fruit!
Mom's making me wear
a bubble-wrap suit.
I haven't heard the words "worry-wort" for a long time, Bridget. What a fun poem, & you took it a completely different way than I imagined. Love this poor kid who seems to be accident prone.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Linda! I don't think I'm much of a worrier, but my girls are not crazy risk taker - thank goodness! = )
DeleteHa ha - poor bubble-wrapped kid! (And may the weekend in your household be Band Aid-free....)
ReplyDeleteThanks, Robyn! Imagine the sound when the bubble wrap kid sits down! LOL! = )
DeleteI laughed at that final image--the kid in the bubble-wrap suit! Didn't we all want to wrap our kids in bubble wrap?
ReplyDeleteThanks, Buffy! Yes, sometimes it seems like it would be easier to bubble wrap them - especially when they are driving (like my oldest), but I guess airbags take care of that. = )
DeleteOh my! I must thank my lucky stars that my kids were never this reckless! Such a funny poem, Bridget. I just hope it wasn't inspired by personal experience.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Michelle! No, this is not inspired by true events. My girls are appropriately cautious without being scared. Perfect for this mom. = )
DeleteHe sounds like my brother. It was a good thing my mom was a nurse and that we lived next door to a physician.
ReplyDeleteCute poem...Hope your life is uneventful this weekend!

Thanks, Donna! Sounds like your family had the perfect safeguards in place for your daredevil brother. = )
DeleteWhat a brilliant use for a curtain rod.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Liz! I'd imagine it'd be quite a stretch to get over the pole using a curtain rod. LOL!
DeleteHa! Love the bubble wrap suit! That mom is DEFINITELY a worry (I'll spell it the way I've always thought of it) wart.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Mary Lee! I think you are right...it is wart. Oops!
DeleteHa! Isn't this clever! Love the ending.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Violet! I think all parents have wanted to bubble wrap their children at one time or another... = )
DeleteI can see quite clearly why Mother is such a worry wart! The anxiety seems to be quite justified! Love the bubble wrap too.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Myra! It seems to be a problem where by the child brings it out in the parent or vice-versa.
