Worry Wart

Mom's a major worrier,
she's a little too afraid.
She's constantly ready
with a million Band-aids.

I don't take risks -
well, not too many.
I didn't gulp a quarter,
it was only a penny.

When I broke my ankle,
it wasn't my fault.
I just used a curtain rod
to practice pole vault.

Mom's over-protectiveness
is beyond reason.
She's making me contemplate
committing family treason.

Now when I leave home,
I look like a fruit!
Mom's making me wear
a bubble-wrap suit.

  1. I haven't heard the words "worry-wort" for a long time, Bridget. What a fun poem, & you took it a completely different way than I imagined. Love this poor kid who seems to be accident prone.

  3. I laughed at that final image--the kid in the bubble-wrap suit! Didn't we all want to wrap our kids in bubble wrap?

    1. Thanks, Buffy! Yes, sometimes it seems like it would be easier to bubble wrap them - especially when they are driving (like my oldest), but I guess airbags take care of that. = )

  4. Oh my! I must thank my lucky stars that my kids were never this reckless! Such a funny poem, Bridget. I just hope it wasn't inspired by personal experience.

    1. Thanks, Michelle! No, this is not inspired by true events. My girls are appropriately cautious without being scared. Perfect for this mom. = )

  5. He sounds like my brother. It was a good thing my mom was a nurse and that we lived next door to a physician.
Cute poem...Hope your life is uneventful this weekend!

    1. Thanks, Liz! I'd imagine it'd be quite a stretch to get over the pole using a curtain rod. LOL!

  9. I can see quite clearly why Mother is such a worry wart! The anxiety seems to be quite justified! Love the bubble wrap too.

    1. Thank you, Myra! It seems to be a problem where by the child brings it out in the parent or vice-versa.
