cicadas' steady thrum
hangs in the air
with the humidity


storm head
thunder competes
with my wind chimes


fat raindrops
pelt our roof

    Lovely! Coincidentally we had heavy rain here in my part of Australia last night. I was so desperate to share the sound that I recorded it and sent it t my husband!

    We've had some heavy rains lately also, and I just love the sounds. "Fat raindrops"...."my favorite song" - so true!

    I like the first stanza -- the humidity is hanging heavy on us this morning and the frogs and cicadas are competing with each other!

    Humidity can feel strong enough to hold something up and keep it hanging there, can't it? I like the way you take us through different stages of storm. Fat raindrops do make a wonderful song! :-)

      Thanks, Tabatha! We only have humidity here in the desert during the monsoon season and it is nothing like the humidity back east or in the south - thankfully. But rain makes the humidity worth it. =)

    It has been so oppressively hot in Seattle lately, I really long to hear some rain outside. We're in the middle of a real drought. I love the fact you recorded the sound for your husband. When we're far off, we get often get images of home, but seldom do we get sounds. Neat idea.

    Like Linda said, this has been the rainiest summer I can remember in 50 years in Colorado. I have loved everything about it- watching the rain pound, the sounds, the smells. And you have captured it so beautifully here. It seems like our rainy season is at an end now and I'm sad. And yes, I wish we could send it to California too.

    These are wonderful haiku, Bridget! I love the natural progression and they each have a lovely "ahhh" moment. We've got a whole lot more than cicada's song hanging in our central Florida humidity– whole marching bands complete with mascots. And that's just for a start. I do miss the SW desert!

    "fat raindrops" is my favorite - love how you've celebrated the rain.
    I, too, wish we could send some over to our CA friends. We've had plenty of both this first part of summer on the SC coast - rain and humidity! And mosquitos....
